Black Rhino photo competition rules

  1. This competition is open to anybody who has been a visitor to Black Rhino Game Reserve.
  2. The competition commences 01 November 2012 and ends on the 31 April 2013. All entries received after the closing date will not be considered.
  3. Only photos taken on Black Rhino Game Reserve will be allowed for submission.
  4. A monthly draw will take place during the first week of each of the subsequent following months. A photo in each category will be selected to go through to the final draw, which will take place during May 2013.
  5. The judges’ decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into in this regard.
  6. The winner will be notified within 28days of the draw date.
  7. Prizes are not exchangeable for cash.
  8. The organizers have the right to change or terminate the competition at their discretion.
  9. Participation in the competition constitutes acceptance of the competition rules. By entering, all entrants will be deemed to have accepted and be bound by the competition rules. All entry instructions form part of the rules.
  10. The winner(s) details will be made available to all participants and involved and interested parties.
  11. Authors may not enter the same/similar image in different categories. Such entries will be disqualified.
  12. All images must be original and must not incorporate elements produced by anyone else.
  13. By virtue of submitting an entry, the entrants certify the work as their own.
  14. Submission of entries signifies acceptance of the conditions of entry and the competition rules.
  15. The entrant must be the sole author and owner of the copyright of all entries
  16. Judges appointed by the organisers will choose the winning entries. The organisers’ decision on all matters relating to the competition will be final, and no correspondence will be entered into.
  17. The organisers reserve the right to free reproduction and exhibition, in any media, of the competition entries. Photographer credits will be acknowledged.
  18. N.B. Only basic image alterations will be accepted. Please follow the below guidelines as to what constitutes basic alterations:-
    1. Removal of dust and scratch marks on scanned images or spots from dust particles on the CCD/CMOS sensors of digital cameras.
    2. Specific lens/sensor aberrations such as chromatic aberrations and purple fringing may also be corrected or removed.
    3. Overall adjustments to exposure and contrast.
    4. Adjustments/corrections of colour balance. This can either be done by selecting an appropriate white balance during the conversion in the RAW images, or by adding/subtracting colours in the photo editing software.
    5. The post capture application of digital colour correction filters like warming and cooling filters, similar to the 81 and 82 series of filters is permissible.
    6. Application of colour saturation. Non-selective saturation that is applied to the image as a whole
    7. Reduction of digital noise, especially in high ISO images
    8. Basic image sharpening
    9. Luminance sharpening
    10. Cropping and re-sizing

ENTRY RULES:

  1. Digital uploads only. No email entries will be accepted.
  2. Entries must be submitted via upload to this website where they will be reviewed and posted.
  3. Images may be landscape or in portrait format.
  4. Images may be black and white or colour.
  5. Images must be resized so that the horizontal axis will not exceed 1920 pixels and the vertical axis will not exceed 1080 pixels
  6. Maximum jpeg size should not exceed 500kb.
  7. The inclusion of a frame/border is permissible as long as it stays within the above-mentioned size restrictions. No wording or text is allowed on the image unless it is an integral part of the image.

  1. Hi Frikkie, thanks for your input. We’ve had a quite few more submissions in the last few days, there are now almost 3 pages and its up to date as it stands. The competition is hotting up with some great images and captions! The caption can sometimes makes a seemingly ordinary image come alive, so we can see it your, the photographer’s view-point.   2. May I suggest that you post the entires on the web page? There are only (almost) 2 pages of photos that’s been there and unchanged for a while. I know of people who have submitted and the photos are not on your web page.

  3. Hi John. The Black Rhino reserve is currently administrating the competition. The prize winner will be published in the Rustenburg Herald along with winning photo/s! I will anounce the prizes as soon as I am aware of them! Thanks
